The 2.0 update marks a significant juncture in Cyberpunk 2077’s evolution, ushering in a series of enhancements and rectifications. While this update represents a milestone for the game, it also introduces a shift in system prerequisites for PC users.
Whereas the game previously accommodated traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), the latest update capitalizes on SSDs’ accelerated read and write speeds to ensure peak performance.
Players are advised to consider this requirement seriously, as the game’s performance on non-compliant hardware may be compromised. However, it’s important to note that existing installations on traditional hard drives will not cease to function abruptly. Rather, the studio will discontinue active support for this older storage medium.
In addition to SSDs, CD Projekt Red has outlined other updated system requirements for the game. While modest hardware specifications are maintained in most areas, the CPU requirements have seen an uptick. The studio now recommends a minimum of an 8-core Intel Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X3D for 1080p gameplay.
This adjustment aligns with prior indications from developers, who hinted at the increased CPU utilization expected with the forthcoming Phantom Liberty update.
Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update is slated for release in the near future, promising a comprehensive overhaul to various facets of the game. Following closely on its heels, the highly anticipated Phantom Liberty expansion is scheduled for launch on September 26.
Critics have already shared their impressions of Phantom Liberty, with a flurry of positive reviews, positioning the expansion as a standout release in the fiercely competitive gaming landscape of 2023. With the new SSD requirement, players are urged to ensure their hardware is up to par for an optimal Cyberpunk 2077 experience.
