The summer of 2023 has been full of exciting gaming news, both official and unofficial. From leaks and rumors to announcements and reveals, there is a lot to catch up on. Here are some of the highlights of the past week:
- Assassin’s Creed Red: The next installment in the popular historical action-adventure franchise is reportedly set in feudal Japan, a long-awaited setting for many fans. According to a LinkedIn post by a Ubisoft business development manager, the game is codenamed Red and is planned to be the biggest blockbuster of 2024. The post was later edited to remove the mention of 2024, but not before it was captured by screenshots. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the same studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and will feature an open-world RPG gameplay with a choice between a samurai or a shinobi protagonist. No official confirmation or details have been given by Ubisoft yet, but fans are eagerly anticipating more information.
- Black Panther: EA has announced that it is working on a single-player action-adventure game based on Marvel’s Black Panther, in collaboration with Marvel Games. The game is being made by a new Seattle-based studio called Cliffhanger Games, led by Kevin Stephens, the former studio head of Monolith Productions (Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War). The game will also feature developers who have worked on Halo Infinite, God of War, Call of Duty, and other top franchises. The game will aim to deliver a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving players more agency and control over their narrative than ever before. The game will also explore the rich and diverse world of Wakanda, the home of the Black Panther. No release date or platforms have been announced yet, but EA has released a teaser image showing the Black Panther logo.
- Jedi: Fallen Order 2: A sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is reportedly in development at Respawn Entertainment, according to a leak from a former Respawn employee. The leak claims that the game will continue the story of Cal Kestis, the young Jedi who survived Order 66 and fought against the Empire. The game will also feature new planets, characters, enemies, and abilities. The leak also suggests that the game will have a darker tone than the first one, and will explore themes such as trauma, loss, and redemption. The leak also mentions that the game will be released in late 2024 or early 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, none of this information has been confirmed by Respawn or EA yet, so take it with a grain of salt.
